National Irony

Did You Know

. . .that Mujahid Asari Dokubo, the leader of the Southern Movement for Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) and the most vocal enemy of the north, is a Muslim?
That, is surely a National Irony. *smile

If you're not doing this, you are wrong

10 WAYS TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX
We’re told to “think outside the box” all the time, but how exactly do we do that? How do we develop the ability to confront problems in ways other than in ways we normally confront problems? How do we cultivate the ability to look at things differently from the way we typically look at things? Here are 11 ways to beef up your out-of-the-box thinking skills. Make an effort to push your thinking up to and beyond its limit every now and again
1.       Draw a picture
Visualizing a problem engages other modes of thinking that we don’t normally use, bringing you another creative boost.
2.       Turn it upside down
Turning something upside down, whether physically by flipping a piece of paper around or metaphorically by re-imagining it can help you see patterns that wouldn’t otherwise be apparent. Changing the orientation of things can hide the more obvious patterns and make other patterns emerge.
3.       Invite randomness
Embracing mistakes and incorporating them into your projects, developing strategies that allow for random input, working amid chaotic juxtapositions of sound and form – all of these can help to move beyond everyday patterns of thinking into the sublime.

Old School
We miss seeing this our favorite detergent. Anybody knows what happened to it?
#BringBackOurGirls
This is unarguably the most popular worldwide campaign to have sprung up from Nigeria. Unfortunately, it isn't a feat for which the country should be particularly proud about. Our thoughts are with every one who this incident is affecting and we pray that the situation be resolved within the shortest possible time.

On the flip side though, how effective has this campaign been from your perspective?

Shocking Facts You Didn't Know A Minute Ago

Nigeria's top Richest people

TOP 10

Faces of Nigeria's richest

Today, we compile for you a list of Nigerian billionaires and top richest people in Nigeria but note that this list will be restricted to entrepreneurs only. Politicians and individuals whose source of wealth cannot be traced are excluded from this list.
Most people have asked why so few Nigerians made the Forbes list of richest people in the world. So far, only Aliko Dangote, Mike Adenuga and Femi Otedola have made the Forbes list of world billionaires. Well the answer to that question is this: Forbes estimates the wealth of individuals and rank them based on the value of shares they have in quoted companies (companies listed on the stock exchange) and most of the richest people in Nigeria prefer to run their businesses privately. That’s why they don’t make the Forbes list of richest people in the world.

The criteria for coming up with this list
  • Value of shares held in quoted companies.
  • Size and market share of their companies
  • Number of companies owned and their assumed value
  • Market value of company’s brand
  • Impact of their companies on the Nigerian economy
  THE LIST (as of 2013)
1.            Alhaji Aliko Dangote –    founder of Dangote Group and Richest black man in the world
2.            Mike Adenuga –    Conoil, Equatorial Trust Bank, Globacom
3.            Femi Otedola –     ZENON Oil and Gas
4.            Orji Uzor Kalu –      Slok Group
5.            Cosmos Maduka –     Coscharis Group
6.            Jimoh Ibrahim –     Nicon Insurance, Global Fleet
7.            Jim Ovia –       Zenith Bank, Visafone

This household material is indestructible

DID YOU KNOW

It takes an average plastic bottle 450 years to start decomposing and another 50 - 80 years before it decomposes fully. That means that every single piece of plastic produced has not decomposed yet!
Polyethylene terephthalate, or PET is nearly indestructible but care must be taken that this very same advantage doesn't become the undoing of our environment. The key is to dispose properly and encourage recycling. Studies have shown that recycling plastics can save up to 2/3 of the needed energy for producing plastic from raw materials.

FINGER LICKING NKWOBI

Do It Yourself

When the serving waitress brought my order, nkwobi, served in the typical container of a small mortar, garnished with ringed onions and utazi leaves (gongronema latifolium) and steaming hot, the aroma filled the atmosphere and assaulted my senses pleasantly of course. I swallowed gulps of saliva in quick succession and couldn't wait to dig in.
I'm not sure if it is the taste, aroma, unique serving container or even the cool ambiance of my favorite joint but there is just something about nkwobi that makes one so excited. Why do you love this delicacy?

HOW TO DO

Fayrouz Non-Alcoholic Cocktail
SERVES 1
“The color of our Fayrouz Non-Alcoholic Cocktail reminds me of the color of the sand in the desert and the coral in the sea. Many palm trees are indeed growing on the shoreline of the Red Sea and some carry coconuts while others have dates. We use them to make some of our local non-alcoholic signature drinks, such as the Fayrouz.”

Ingredients:
3 tbsp (43 g) of sopya (coconut powder)
7 oz (200 ml) milk
10 mint leaves, plus 2 more for garnish
Coconut shavings
Crushed ice
Method:
1. Mix all ingredients in a blender and serve in a double martini glass over crushed ice.
2. Garnish with fresh mint leaves and coconut shavings.
